Pixel Qi Corporation, a reality that operates in the development of technologies for LCD panels, has announced that it has received an investment by 3M by 3M New Ventures division. The amount of the investment has not been officially announced, although some rumors indicate on $ 3 million the amount invested.
Pixel Qi, founded by Mary Lou Jepson in 2008, manufactures technology for the production of LCD panels with high readability under sunlight, for use in mobile devices. The reflective technology developed by Pixel Qi allows designers to turn off the backlight of the panel in particular conditions of ambient light in order to save energy. Currently the company offers color and monochrome models of its display, 10.1-inch diagonal.
"The technology offers consumers Pixel Qi for the first time an outdoor readable display with exceptional autonomy, utilizable anywhere and at any time. It is the first industry. In our partnership with 3M, we have the ability to accelerate the mass adoption of these displays, "said Mary Lou Jepson. The company said that the financing obtained will further develop its product offering for consumer markets, as well as for digital signage applications and cloud. The funding wills also Pixel Qi to strengthen their capacity for engineering and sales.
3M Optical Systems Division provides polarizing films that are used in liquid crystal display to optimize the light output. "The combination of low-power reflective technology of Pixel Qi, with the technology of 3M products for the markets will create interesting mobile, handheld and tablet," said Jim Bauman, vice president of 3M's Optical Systems.
Recall that before the foundation of Pixel Qi, Mary Lou Jepson was Chief Architect and Chief Technology Officer for the project One Laptop Per Child sponsored by MIT .
