4K resolutions supported by the GPU of Ivy Bridge

We were able to provide plenty of information about Ivy Bridge architecture from Intel, code name that identifies future generations of Intel CPUs built with 22-nanometer production technology, and expected to debut during the first months of 2012. Among the details revealed at IDF last week point out something specific related to the integrated GPU.

The GPU is the component in which Intel has invested more in the development of Ivy Bridge, from performance point of view it is conceivable that we will see net gains in the passage from Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge, combining this with support for DirectX 11, which will be implemented first.

The integrated GPU in Ivy Bridge is compatible with video resolutions up to 4.096x4.096 pixels , of course, using a single connection, this feature was implemented thanks to the ' engine or MFX Multi Format Codec integrated. A resolution of this type is the highest currently available not only for integrated solutions, but also taking as reference the discrete graphics cards from NVIDIA and AMD.

On the other hand, at least at the present time is not display on the market capable of handling this kind of resolution, let alone video content available for this resolution if no materials specifically developed. The integrated GPU allows, according to advance by Intel, supports the streaming of 4K video streams simultaneously different. A distribution of video material is linked to the availability of 4K Red One camera, which was adopted specifically for this type of screen resolution

iPhone 5: Waiting for the presentation on October 4

The new iPhone will be presented Tuesday, Oct. 4 . And 'This is the date, according to information collected by the authoritative site All Things Digital, where Apple will unveil to the public 5 iPhone. It is very likely hypothesis that seems to be reflected in the findings of an internal documentation of Best Buy, according to which the new terminal of the apple would be presented during the first week of October.

Two additional considerations reinforce the veracity of All Things Digital dell'indiscrezione: the specified date is a Tuesday, traditionally favored by Apple to make their ads, and secondly the presentation of the new phone earlier this month of October to allow Apple can have the product on the market for the entire December quarter (provided that it is available immediately or at short distance from the launch), during which they are recorded as sales of the Christmas period.

The spotlight, however, will focus only on Apple's new phone: the launch event will be in fact the first "public appearance" of the new chief executive officer Tim Cook, who took the reins of the company after the resignation that Steve Jobs announced the public at the end of August. Cook, his eyes fixed on him the public, will be able to convey an image of continuity, thus confirming that the direction of the company will not be different than those operated by Jobs during these years.

Probably, as Jobs has done the same in all the latest events, Cook will leave room for other key executives of the company, such as the Head of IOS Scott Forestall and senior vice president of Software and Internet Services Eddy Cue; but will still play a central role in the context of the presentation.

It 'confirmable, it' deniability, meanwhile, a possible appearance of Steve Jobs : the decision to participate or not the event will be linked to his health, and will be taken close to the date fixed by Apple. But it is possible that the space for the traditional "One more thing ..." can be reserved for former CEO.

A flaw in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion lets you change the user password

The latest operating system Mac OS X 10.7 Lion is suffering from a serious security bug that allows anyone to be able to change the current user's password without being prompted for authentication. To explain the details of the problem is Defense in Depth, a blog about computer security.

The author, Patrick Dustan, explains how to trace the user password is possible to use a technique already described in the past to force Mac OS X 10.6 and earlier, and which provides, in summary, to extract the password hashes from a specific file Shadow of the user, located in a specific location. The shadow files are files whose access is allowed only to the user with higher privileges, in other words the root user. By Tiger on, each user has their own shadow file, whose data are accessible only by root, or at least it should be.

It seems, however, that in the redesign of the authentication schemes of Lion have gone unnoticed a rather important detail. Although non-root users do not even have the ability to directly access the shadow file, Lion currently allows them to see information on password hashes, extracting them via Directory Services. The most problematic aspect is the fact that this flaw allows to directly changing the password of the user logged in without being prompted for authentication.

This problem, in certain situations, could easily be a way to escalate privileges, especially if the victim of the attack is a user with administrator rights. The limitation of the standard utility dscl is currently a temporary measure that can contain the problem, waiting for that Apple is about to release a corrective patch.

iPhone 5: Some images reveal the new processor?

Weeks now that talks about the new iPhone 5, and now rumors and rumors about it are countless. It has gone dall'ipotizzare a possible launch date of the device forms the image and designs of the same from the possible cover, all passing through several photos of likely components, and to make matters worse, the possible loss of a prototype of the phone.

As widespread in these times, would appear online some photos that show what could be the processor used by Apple in the smart phone version of the apple bitten. The SoC captured in these photos made and stayed in a number of other components seem to be, as has often been mentioned, the same dual-core engine for the A5 at the time of the latest generation of giant tablet of Cupertino, iPad 2.

The theory that may be just a prototype of the iPhone 4 with updated processor and used to test the stability of the new system. The part of the cover that is visible in the photo on the left seems to be very similar to that used in the model the iPhone is currently available.

And if, as some had speculated, it was indeed the new iPhone, and really only concern the restyling of the internal components? Advanced here is the third hypothesis. Hypothesis that, as such, will be only one possible interpretation for a few weeks. It appears that, after all, only the official presentation which should take place during the month of October will unveil final shape and components of the new iPhone.
