AMD Radeon HD 7900, XDR2 memory in sight?

Last week we dealt with this news, going to analyze the latest rumors about the family Radeon HD 7000, code-named Southern Islands could be reached by AMD's new graphics cards before the end of 2011, bringing an exciting of novelty in a stagnant market segment for some months now.

Yesterday, however, appearances are new rumors, this time related to a specific model of the new range of branded GPU AMD Radeon HD 7900, the solution used for the high end of the family, code-named Tahiti.

According to the latest rumors, in fact, the proposal will be developed with free PCI-Express 3.0, which will provide the video card to a bandwidth of 32GB / s. The video card should also be developed on a new architecture, at the time identified as "Core Next Architecture”. If most of the models in the Radeon HD 7000 will be developed on the architecture VLIW4, already filed with the Cayman, this apparently is not for Radeon HD 7900.

The biggest news, however, concerns the use of memory-type XDR2: these components are capable of providing high bandwidth and good efficiency. XDR2 is a technology developed by Ramous, which must be confronted directly with GDDR5, according to a statement from Ramous itself; of course, the solutions are absolutely XDR2 higher performance than GDDR5 technology.

The use XDR technology is not new for AMD: This type of memory is used for some time to develop console. If the details are confirmed, Radeon HD 7950 and Radeon HD 7970 cards seem to have in order to bring a series of important innovations in the market. As usual, in this case, we just have to wait.
