Intel Atom ready to abandon the brand?

The rumor is reported by well-known website Digitimes concerns and Intel and its product strategy: the well-known American company, in fact, he plans to leave the Atom brand, which has characterized the CPU for net books and solutions with low-end performance by years now.

According to a source from Intel would be willing to abandon the name starting next year , with solutions based on the architecture Cedar Trail. It then opens the possibility that the first CPU models Cedar Trail arrive this year and are identified as Atom, a brand that will then be disposed of during 2012.

At the moment there are reasons that would be revealed behind that decision: as suggested by the site, although this is conjecture, sales of net book and net top solutions would also fallen for the bad image that the brand Atom would be built over the years .

This view, widely held among many, is still true; Atom has become in recent years been synonymous with particularly low performance, and often do not satisfy the end user. The choice of Intel would, in this sense, tied to the hope of reviving a market segment particularly tight.

Cedar Trail could therefore be the turning point and drop the Atom brand, but with what benefits? If the solutions with the new architecture will be able to have an integrated GPU that can correctly handle HD video streams (historical Achilles heel of the Atom solutions), the CPU should not take this huge step forward in terms of performance.

During the morning, however, Intel has denied rumors that indicate how the possible abandonment of this brand, a company spokesman has confirmed its intention to continue to focus on future solutions for Atom.
