European consumers are increasingly interested in buying smart hone solutions, according to the released by IDC. For the first time, during the second quarter of 2011, sales of so-called feature phones, or phones with basic functions, were lower than those of smart phone solutions.
The data show for the second quarter sales in Europe of 20.4 million phones to feature a drop of 29% on an annual basis; solutions for smart phone sales totaled 21.8 million units, an increase of 48%. In total, however, sales of phones in the regions of Western Europe were down 3% versus the second quarter of 2010, for a total of 42.2 million units.
Strong growth in the spread of solutions-based smart phone operating system, Android, in the second quarter increased 352% over the same period last year. In total solutions Android sales have collected 10.5 million units, representing 48.5% of total smart phone.

Samsung has won first place among handset manufacturers in Europe, thanks mainly to the sharp contraction of Nokia, which has lost 44% on an annual basis. Apple in third place, strong growth of 64%, followed by HTC who has achieved the highest increase among the companies with 121% growth on an annual basis.

And 'in the smart phone segment that Samsung has the highest increases its market share, with a +700% on an annual basis and a total of 4.8 million devices. In second place we find Apple, capable of increasing by 64% year on year, followed by HTC and RIM. Nokia last place closes; it loses 60% of the volume versus the second quarter of 2010 with a total of 2.3 million smart phones sold in Europe.
