The renewal of the range compact Canon had waited for these days and has not missed the appointment, but left disappointed those who wanted a model of Canon Power Shot G12 successor. The house red and white it has updated the range super zoom and the S series, but did not announce the expected G13. On the one hand we have the new Canon Power Shot SX40 HS and other Canon Power Shot S100.
The two cameras mark the long-awaited debut of the new DIGIC V, which surely will make its appearance on the products in the future SLR. Interesting data from Canon declared: “The more processing power, combined with improved noise reduction algorithms, resulting in highly detailed images with a noise reduction up to 75% higher than those obtained with models with processor DIGIC 4 ". The results will be noted on the field, but the premise is certainly interesting.
Canon Power Shot SX40 remains faithful optics stabilized 35x 24-840mm equivalent, but sees a major upgrade on the front of the sensor: 14-megapixel CCD from the previous model switches to a back-illuminated CMOS sensor 12.1 mega pixels (still in size 1 / 2.3 ") and also integrates the HS System, which combines the performance of sensor technologies in terms of speed to reduce image noise.
The new coupled sensor / processor also allows bursts at 2.4 fps up to full memory card, or, with the new High-Speed Burst mode HQ, high-speed sequence up to 8 shots at full resolution at 10, 3 fps. New Super Slow Motion also feature VGA resolution at 120 fps or QVGA resolution at 240 fps. Also on the front video signals support for 1080p Full HD movies. Power Shot SX40 HS will be available from October 2011 to the suggested retail price of 489 euros VAT included.
It is suitable for finest taste the new Canon Power Shot S100, S95 heir. In this case, the sensor size remains the largest size (1 / 1, 7 “), but the transition to CMOS technology shows an increase of resolution from the previous model to 10 12.1 mega pixel current. Even in this case Canon HS System has integrated the technology. While maintaining the brightness of the focal length of at least f/2.0, Canon has upgraded the optical stabilized, leading to 5x zoom extension and widening the horizons of S100 to embrace the equivalent minimum focal 24mm.
Among the innovations introduced by the new DIGIC V is even: the white balance, multi-zone , very useful for example when it depicts a person using the flash in a context such as tungsten hot lights. Power Shot S100 confirms that the rank of a compact support for the RAW format. Other features include standard GPS receiver for geo tagging of photos and videos to support Full HD 1080p at 24fps.
Power Shot S100 is also capable of capturing full resolution bursts up to 9.6 shots / sec. (Up to 8 shots) in High-Speed Burst HQ in Super Slow Motion and video at 240 fps. From the point of view of the interface remains loyal to Canon's ring positioned on the lens barrel, especially the owners of the S series are greatly appreciated. Pointing and shooting takes place through the revision of the rear display 3.0 "with a resolution of 461,000 points, protected by tempered glass. Power Shot S100 will be available from November 2011 to the suggested retail price of 467 euros VAT included.
