Seagate Introduces GoFlex Desk 4 TB, single-disk external drive

Seagate has announced the distribution of the new family member GoFlex Desk 4TB , the disk drives with higher capacity than the industry at least until now. We have already talked about here, but now reach new details and price in euros. A new design welcomes the real news, or a 3.5-inch disk with a capacity of 4TB records from well, with good chances with conservative rotation speed (5400 rpm?), not a 7200.

The basic interface used is USB 3.0, can also operate with USB 2.0. But as typical of GoFlex drives from Seagate, connectors are provided to expand the compatibility of the unit also interfaces with FireWire and Thunderbolt, the latter also waiting on non-Apple computers since 2012.

The need for storage space is no limits to the growth, with the increase in the distribution of digital material; photographs and video do not last. A trend that IDC, famous agency that specializes in market forecasting, provides constant, even for years to come. The new units from 4 TB GoFlex Desk is available at www.seagate.com within a month and can be purchased from selected online retailers at manufacturer's suggested retail price of 249.99 euros.

These figures suggested and susceptible to bending, as often happens in supermarkets. A figure in particular is clear: it is a unit of approximately 0.062 Euro per GB, or just over 6 cents per GB of storage, while considering that external drives are more expensive internal disk. The traditional hard drives, in short, continue in the race to TB without knowing stops. Even considering the declining cost per GB for SSD, the gap in this area remains enormous, justifying and ensuring long life to traditional hard drives for many years.
