Intel Corporation has chosen its campus in Leixlip Ireland instead of Fab 28 in Kiryat Gat in Israel as a facility that will receive an update for the production technology to 15 nanometers , as reported by the website EETimes recovering from a report in Israeli newspaper Globes.
The choice of Ireland instead of Israel seems to be the result of a small altercation between Intel and the Israeli government: the giant of Santa Clara would in fact support the requested value of $ 600 million for the expansion of manufacturing operations in the country, but the government of Israel was only able to offer 1 billion shekels, equivalent to 290 million dollars.
A representative of the Israeli government said: "Intel will officially announce its decision at the end of the year, but we believe that the spirit of the talks will be back in Ireland." The Santa Clara company, however, has still not closed all the doors and would be willing to create new jobs in a factory in Bait She’ an the construction of new facilities.
Currently in Ireland there are three factories operating in the giant processors: the Fab 10, Fab 24 and Fab 24-2. During the summer of 2009, Intel has decided to end operations at the Fab 14 in Leixlip, near Dublin. In January of this year Intel has addressed an investment of 500 million to restore the old plant's Fab 14, but does not reveal about their plans for activities in the production structure that, at this point, will be updated for 15-nanometer production in 2013.
