First look at Windows 8: two misses and one success

Microsoft published the first official demo video of Windows 8. The user interface is impressive, but the company is still trying to create a universal operating system, Windows 8 tablet and desktop computers, and it threatens to spoil the standard version of Windows. Microsoft opened the curtain on Windows 8. The new system boasts an interesting visual effect, but apparently the company has not learned any lessons from his many failures over the last decade. In my opinion, the developers of Windows 8 make two big miss, but in some ways than the old software giant all the same rights. For a start I suggest you look first five-minute demo of Windows 8, and then share their impressions about it. The demo video of Windows 8 This movie was released the first of June, with the first public demonstration of Windows 8, which the president of the Windows Steven Sinofsky (Steven Sinofsky) held a conference at All Things Digital (D9). In a video demonstration of Jensen Harris (Jensen Harris), the chief program manager for User Interface Windows, briefly covers the major innovations and promises that will soon be published the following demos.

One success
So I'll start with the good news. Microsoft finally obsessed with multi-touch interface that many users love the convenience and simplicity. The new interface is Windows, as shown in the D9 and the demo video, obviously inspired by recent developments in the Microsoft Zone and Windows Phone 7. Argued that it will be used on computers and laptops, and tablets. The official video interface is demonstrated by a 10-inch plate, and this is clearly a response to the success of Microsoft iPad, which sadly affected the sales of computers running Windows. The new user interfaces, according to the demo video, high-quality, intuitive and offers some interesting solutions in the field of multi-tasking that surely will satisfy users of tablets. Microsoft has long been developing touch interfaces. The basic sensor functionality was implemented in the first Windows CE (aka Windows Mobile). Flatbed desktop support Microsoft Surface complex simultaneous touch and multi touch interface. However, the company has allowed Apple, Google, HTC, Samsung and other manufacturers beat themselves, giving them victory in the mass market multi-touch devices. This is well illustrated by the following example. Four years ago at D5 and Bill Gates (Bill Gates), and Steve Jobs (Steve Jobs) presented new multi-touch products. Jobs demonstrated the iPhone, Gates - Microsoft Surface. The audience was enthusiastic about both innovations. It has since been sold to more than 90 million iPhone, which in turn contributed to an active sales and iPod Touch iPad. A Microsoft Surface now available only in a dozen Las Vegas bars. Two slip Microsoft's approach to the development of Windows 8 has two big drawbacks are reduced to the fact that the company is still trying to create a universal product for a universal audience. What you get as a result, is unlikely to fully satisfy at least someone. The first error Microsoft - unsystematic development. In his speech, the president of the Windows Steven Sinofsky said: "We will not tolerate any compromises - for us it is very important." "No compromise" - it usually means "no discipline". Microsoft is so afraid to offend at least someone from your potential customers that piles up on the existing code base a whole bunch of functions and receives as a result of such a monster frank entity nonskid go Microsoft Office. Heard about Microsoft's plans regarding Windows 8, I posted on Twitter the above idea: “no compromises "- means any discipline. Many experts agree with me, but better put it all @ dgackey: «When they say" no "to something that does not exist, it usually means the absence of any idea of their target market." Claiming that the company will not tolerate any compromises, Sinofsky has mind that tablets running Windows 8 will be run Tablet application, the application of HTML5 and traditional programs for Windows, the operating system can run on traditional computers, and on plates. And I think that Microsoft has finally learned my lesson. The company has already tried to transfer the full version of Windows 7 on a tablet, and these so-called "thin PCs" suffered a crushing defeat on the iPad. Now Microsoft is going to radically redesigned user interface Windows, to optimize the system for tablets, and plans to implement these innovations in the standard version of Windows for desktops and laptops. What kind of nonsense? And this brings me to my second major problem: this approach can simply destroy the basis of the operating system that is used on most modern PCs and laptops. At the touch interface used large icons and images that do not require high-precision control - based on the fingers of different sizes. Meanwhile, the traditional user interface for keyboard and mouse is to use small elements of navigation for a more complex and precise gestures. By implementing the tablet user interface in a standard version of Windows 8, Microsoft will deprive users the opportunity to commit complex, requiring high-precision operation to carry out their daily tasks. I wish the company has developed a separate operating system for tablets, while continuing to improve in parallel with the traditional operating system for users who require high power, precision and flexibility of the software. Of course, many only one tablet, and some want to use the tablet as a second computer, but to deprive the standard version of Windows for the sake of the traditional benefits of a successful competition with the iPad - this is the wrong approach.
