Opens its doors to the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, 2011 edition. Many people have made some question in recent times about the approach that Intel held in booming sectors, namely smart phones and tablet PCs. It starts with a clear view: Intel dominates the PC industry unchallenged with regard to hardware platforms, while in these areas is virtually absent.
Although the scenario envisioned by the current year (MIDs hypothesized 10 years ago are in fact smart phones today's functionality and size), Intel is effectively absent in smarpthone, while collecting the crumbs of the tablet PC, such as all non-Apple manufacturers.
In the past we have witnessed the announcement of several prototypes smart phone or tablet, software ecosystem built around me ego. Apart from the goodness of the latter, it became immediately clear that it would be difficult if not impossible, to win the hearts of fans with an operating system to be put in competition with the popular iPhone OS and Android.
Paul Otellini, Intel's Economic Committee, immediately puts the record straight. Need a turn, accelerating to enter these sectors. Here he is then engaged to pull the solution out of his pocket: one with smarpthone Atom Medfield (fourth-generation SoC Atom MIDs) and operating system Android. Mr. Otellini also shows a tablet, based on the same architecture. To be even clearer, is called on stage Andy Rubin, senior vice president of Google Mobile, which sends the message of the day: Intel and Google will collaborate to develop hardware and software for the world's smart phones and tablet.
A collaboration that knows of a challenge to the mobile world: the Google Android operating system will be optimized for Intel platforms. To avoid confusion, we point out that the Android operating system will always be available for ARM-based platforms. The first Intel-Android smart phone models will be available in the first half of 2012. With all due respect to Meego.
