The leader of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, has denied the possibility that the company decides to devote himself to developing titles for the mobile market to improve their profits.
Analysts and investors were convinced that the Kyoto Company should broaden their horizons by going to occupy even the end of the smart phone market, but Iwata told the Nikkei that his main responsibility is the development of a long-term planning and to obtain quick and immediate profits.
"This was not entirely taken into account," he said. "If we had made this move, Nintendo would be stopped. Owning a team of hardware development within the company is our main strength. And 'a duty of our management to exploit these opportunities."
"It is probably the correct decision in the sense that if we had started to publish games on smart phones would have realized profits. However, I believe that my primary responsibility is to pursue profits in the short term, but to prepare a competitive strategy for Nintendo in the long run ".
Iwata also talked about the launch price of 3DS as an "obstacle" that the company has eliminated through the cut made in recent weeks. During the conference that preceded the TGS were unveiled several new products including the new Circle Pad accessory that will add a second analog stick to the handheld console, the PlayStation aligning Life, and will introduce two new buttons back. Investors, however, have reacted quite skeptical shown by the plans.
