Samsung Series 5 Chrome book trial Analysis of the display

The Chrome book Samsung 5 Series has a 12.1-inch display featuring LED backlight and a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. The analysis on the brightness of the panel confirms the allegation made by Samsung for this product: the brightness of up to 293 nits is a great value and allows you to use the Chrome book even under strong ambient light.

The brightness is adjustable to as many as 16 steps and the minimum level is quite comfortable even for a use of the device in the dark. As clearly visible in the graph above the curve of brightness is extremely linear.

The evolution of the depth of black did measure a significant linearity with very low initial values close to 0.1 nits on the lower level, although over a third step the measured value is already quite high. The contrast ratio settles down to a value of 40:1, almost reference value for notebook panels of sizes and features are not exaggerated.

The colorimetric analysis shows a good accuracy of the white point, but beyond that the panel of the Samsung Series 5 does not show great features: the triangle found is quite limited compared to the reference and is therefore the primary colors are complementary both little saturated except for the cyan. The same situation has been detected on other notebooks and probably lies in the technology used for this type of display, as well as the quality of them. From a Chromebook like the Samsung Series 5 does not then you can expect a high color rendering, or colors very saturated, even if the high brightness of the panel is perhaps the best feature for a similar product.
