Soon the stop to the Athlon and Phenom

AMD would have outlined the suspension of production of the solutions of the Phenom and Athlon CPU families, according to advance from the website fuzzily to this address. AMD expects to accept for part of these CPUs, the fourth quarter of 2011 as the last period of shipment to customers.

The rest of the CPU will remain on the market several months; will be starting in the second quarter of 2012 of the fact that AMD will suspend the acceptance of all orders from customers. In fact, therefore, expected a quick exit from the scene for the AMD Phenom and Athlon processors: the future of the U.S. passes through the proposals for the FX segment of high-end desktop market, complemented by solutions A and E GPU and CPU integrated segments of mid-range and entry level.

It now remains to be seen whether and how AMD intends to continue to carry out the Athlon brand . Recently, the American company has introduced a new CPU, Athlon X4 II Model 631, which is not compatible with AM3 motherboards but with those for solutions of the family FM1 Llano.

This processor, in particular, is nothing more than an APU based on the architecture of the family in Llano, which is disabled while the component integrated GPU architecture for the quad core CPU.

By suspending the marketing of solutions for AMD Phenom and Athlon done for their solutions will only use 32-nanometer manufacturing technology. The only exception, at least for the moment, is represented by the proposals of the E-series entry level, built with 40-nanometer production technology from Taiwan's TSMC.
